The Waitaki Valley

On the many lakes linked by the Waitaki River, boaties enjoy the thrill of jetboating and water skiing, while the banks are festooned with tents and caravans over much of the summer. New vineyards have emerged from the ground producing yet another crop of great wines. An area rich in high country farming hinterland, is now experiencing a burst of new growth in many different directions. More info... 


At the base of the trail sits Oamaru, an historic trading and whaling port, whose history is captured in the moment within the beautiful Victorian precinct. The beautiful Oamaru stone of the area, has provided a building material that has weathered the passing years and has been lovingly restored to its former glory. Flowing into the bay the harbour provides a natural setting for the Blue Penguin colony which now attracts visitors from around the world. More info...
